The Fray – Heartbeat
This song’s inspiration was a trip
Isaac Slade took to Rwanda. They were travelling looking for inspiration, and Isaac
decided he wanted to go to Rwanda. He wanted to see how the country recovering
and stuff was. He saw the country coming back to life and that’s what he wants
to express with the song: a girl coming back to life. He was having lunch and
they were giving thanks, and he felt the heartbeat of the woman next to him. He
recalls: “I can’t say if it was her pulse or mine, I just felt Rwanda coming
back to life”. Then, he caught his phone and recorded an idea for the song. He says:
“all the kids at school were looking at me and so happy, like if they knew I was
singing about all them”.
