Through the Years: The Best of The Fray

Remember when I told you about The Fray going on tour this fall? 

Well, that's not the only great thing happening this fall! 

The Fray has released a new album, Through the Years: The Best of The Fray. This album containts the best hits they've released ever since they started, but that's not everything. Also, the album has three brand new songs: Singing Low, Corners and Changing Tides. 

These new tracks offer a style similar to the one we could find in Helios, however, I kind of feel that it's also similar to Scars & Stories' one. What do you think?

September is here... that's something that doesn't amaze many of us. 

However, the farther we're from Summer... the shorter we're from October, which means fall! And our guys are doing an U.S. tour this fall. 

The Fray is touring with an especial guest - American Authors. They'll be touring all over the States, from the 15th October, until the 26th November. A few days ago, this blog reached 20,000 reads.

When you create something and you see it progress, moments like this one become awesome and weird at the same time. Why is that?

Well, when I created it and reached 1K reads, I thought that it was pretty rad and felt self-proud. Just as it happened when it reached 5K, 10K, and finally, 20K. For this reason, it doesn't seem like a big thing even to me, until I think about it with perspective of time. When I do, all I think is: wow.

About one year ago at this time, this blog had about 10K reads, which means that the reads here are now two times than they were back then - that little thought draws a huge smile on my face.

For this reason, even though I don't know you, all I know about you guys is where you're from (since I get to see where the reads come from) and that's it, I wanted to give you a big thank you. Because it's thanks to you that this is possible - although for you it might seem like nothing, to me it's a damn lot.

Without further delay, let's put aside the deepness and thoughtful stuff (not really anyway). This blog is about The Fray, isn't it? Well, let's talk about something related to our four guys!

Since I wanted to make this post kind of special and do something quite different, I started to think what I could talk about, and something came to mind. I realized I've never shared with you the times I've been noticed by The Fray in social media (yeah, I've never seen them live *cries*).

(I've deleted the name of the accounts because I wanted to keep my privacy and I don't use those accounts anymore so I don't want to share them here - but it's not fake)

This is from the first live chat they did on Facebook, I got so happy I got to replies, you should have seen my face of happiness ;)

 

They didn't reply to my post sharing this video, but they did to other girl's post. So, they saw a fan video we did a group of fans of The Fray - which was the best thing about all, they saw our video *-*

Honestly, looking at these captions, which are from 2013, makes me so emotional. It's been ages and these memories are really nice ones. By the way, have you ever been noticed by them? If so, share it here in the comments or in my twitter account (@bandskeepalive), go!

My Interpretation Of Keep On Wanting

I'm aware that I haven't talked much about the album Helios. I've only talked about it when it was about to come out, when it came out, and in moments like those. 

Today I felt like talking about it though. Nevertheless, I'm not talking about the whole album at the moment, I'm talking about one song. Actually, my favorite one off the album: Keep Oon Wanting.

It's not a single, and for this reason, you don't hear many people talking about it, right? This song is underrated, to be honest. 

Saying that a song is deep and emotional would be something unsuaul and something to mention, if we weren't talking about The Fray, but we are. However, the message is strong in this track, it hits home. 

It's about going on, no matter how broken, how desperate you are. It's about opening up and starting to get back your life, starting to live again.

Keep on wanting, keep on moving forward, keep on fighting, keep on dreaming.

The Story Of Trust Me

Have you ever wondered what Trust Me was about? Well, despite the fact that a song can mean anything and everything at the same time, here's what the song was written about, accoring to Joe King, guitarist and back-up vocalist of The Fray:

"It's the story from the early days of The Fray - when we didn't have a label and you didn't know who to trust, and people were telling us which direction to go in. It's a song about the feeling of almost being alone, despite there be a lot of people around."

All that said, the song is about trying to follow the correct path, trying to make their dreams true, but having people driving you crazy while all you try to do is to do the right thing. After all, that's what happens in life whenever you try to do something you'd never done before.

The Fray supports St.Jude!

The Fray has joined Firefly Music Festival, whose purpose is to help save kids of  St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Also, others artist and supportes are performing at this festival, such as blink-182, Kings Of Leon, Of Monsters & Men...

You better prepare your schedule, because The Fray has already announced several dates in which they will be playing this summer, and you dont' want to miss them!

Analyzing "Over My Head (Cable Car)"

Hi there everyone! 

Today, while I was listening to the song Over My Head (Cable Car), I just started to analyze the song at the same time. Suddenly, I realized that maybe it would be interesting to share that with you guys. Without further delay, I'm going to analyze this song keeping in mind the story behind it, which can be found in this post: http://everythingaboutthefray.blogspot.com.es/2013/08/the-story-of-over-my-head-cable-car.html

"I never knew, I never knew that everything was falling through, that everyone I knew was waiting on a queue to turn and run when all I needed was the truth but that's how it's got to be. It's coming down to nothing more than apathy. I'd rather run the other way than stay and see the smoke and who's still standing when it clears." 

As far as I'm concerned, this can be interpreted considering the two versions (let's call it that way) of what happened between Isaac Slade and his brother Caleb - which is what the song's about. 

- On the one hand, the person who's "talking" could be Caleb, who was kicked out of the band, who's basically saying that he didn't expect that, he wasn't expecting to be kicked out of the band, and it comes to a point where all he wants to do is run away and escape that situation. Probably all he neede was someone to just tell him things as they were. 

- On the other hand, the person who's talking could be Isaac, who's in a complicated situation since it's not easy to kick your brother out of a band you're in, and he ends up just feeling apathy. Also he needs to escape that stressful situation.

"Everyone knows I'm in, over my head, over my head. With eight seconds left in overtime, she's on your mind, she's on your mind."

What's to be in over your head? It's when you're in a situation that's out of your hands, that is more than what you can control. This is exactly what happened to Isaac in that moment. Also, when the song says "she's on your mind", it refers to the band - the band was in Caleb's mind. 

"Let's rearrange, I wish you were a strange and I could disengage. Just say that we agree and then never change, soften a bit until we all just get along. But that's disregard, you find another friend and you discard. As you lose the arguments in a cable car. Hanging above as the canyon comes between."

The first lines talk about how the argument also went along with the issue that they're brothers. It's not the same if you argue with a friend that you can just follow different pathss than when it's someone you have to coexist with whether you want it or not.  

Then, the line that mentions a cable car clearly refers to Caleb's nickname, which is cable car. Also, the last line probably makes reference to Colorado, the place they're from, since it talks about a canyon, which could be the Grand Canyon. 

"And suddenly I become a part of your past, I'm becomming the part that don't last. I'm losing you and it's effortless. Without a sound, we lose sight of the ground in the throw around. I never thought that you wanted to bring it down. I won't let it go down until we torch it ourselves." 

This part mentions the fact that, after the argument, some distance separated the brothers. Isaac's reaction to this is not giving up and trying to fix the situation between the two of them.

"How to Save a Life - The Story"

Hi frayers! 

We love documentaries, don't we? Well, I don't know if you like animal documentaries, or history documentaries and so on, but I'm quite sure you do love The Fray's documentaries! I'm talking in plural, you noticed that, didn't you? Well, Fair Fight isn't the only documentary which our guys have made.

Maybe you knew that before reading this post, but, hey, maybe you didn't know and you're just finding it up! The documentary I'm talking about is How to Save a Life - The Story. 

It's a really interesting documentary since they talk about the beginnings of the band, how it was formed, the making of their first album, talking about little things about themselves, songs and the album itself. 

If you haven't watched it, go watch it because you won't regret it - you'll really enjoy it. Also, if you have watched, why not watching it again? ;)

2015 is almost over!

Hello there!

I was thinking of making a review of what it has been this year like for The Fray, but they haven't been much online and there haven't been many news from them. They went on tour last summer and they started writing their new record but that's basically it - there's not much more to say!

However, I've been thinking and I've just realized that this is the third year this blog is active because I created it in 2013, so this blog is being here for a pretty long while. Also the blog is really close to 15K reads which is so sick - thank you so much guys ^-^ 

I didn't quite know what to do this post about, but I wanted to make it somehow important since it's the last one of the year and I felt like it had to be special. Checking my YouTube playlists I found some videos that gave me a cool idea: sharing with you songs that The Fray has played live but were never officially released. 

The songs I found or could remember about were three: The Fall, Scars & Stories and Think It Over. The three of them are very beautiful songs that I personally hope that someday the guys make into a studio version - who knows? 

By the way, I hope you guys had a wonderful year and that the next year is awesome for y'all - happy new year! My best wishes xx

A pretty inactive month!

Hi everyone!

This month, our guys have been kind of inactive (so have I), so I can't really bring you news from LP5. It is pretty clear that they're working on the new record, since they posted some photos last months of them in the studio, and they played at fall views casino, but nothing else! All we can do is wait patiently until we have more news - what seems that will take a while :(

The Story of 1961

Hi everyone! 

Lately, I've been thinking in depth about this blog, and I couldn't help but feel disappointed wih myself, because I don't post as often as I should. And, actually I've said that before but at the moment I'm only posting a post per month, which I feel isn't fair for you. Due to that, I'm going to try to post once a week - if I see I'm too busy and can't do that, I'll post at least twice a month. It's not too much but it's way more than what I've been posting for the last eight or nine months. You have my word that I'll try my best. 

Okay, now, apart from that, let's talk about stuff related to the band this blog's about. Today, I'm talking to you about The Fray's song "1961", from their third album 'Scars & Stories'. 

If you know some History, that date will remind you of something, right? The Berlin Wall, exactly. It was built in 1961, and it was demolished in 1989, date which is also mentioned in the song. That can give us an idea of what it's about, can't it? 

Accordng to an interview from Isaac Slade for the huffington post, the song comes from a trip that him and Dillon took to New Orleans to try to do some writing. Before I go on, I'll remind you in case you don't know or forgot, that Isaac Slade travelled a lot to get some inspiration for songs while writing the album. Now, we're back to the song. So, they rented a house and they wrote a song about The Berlin Wall, and "the dvision it represented in regards to one unified city becoming two cities still under the covering of a country. They're both German, but in a sense, they were as far from each other as they could possibly be. I think that's how our relationships can be sometimes. Not to sound cliché, but we all as people build these walls that don't really come down until someone comes into our lives, tears them down, and says, "Enough!".

That is actually the feeling the song brings, the feeling of being "so close but so far away", which can mean physically or emotionally. 

The Fray playing the Festival of Families!

Hello my fellow readers!

Only a few days ago, The Fray played at The World Meeting of Families festival, which was attended by Pope Francis, last Saturday.

This event is an international celebration of family, community and faith, which this year has featured international artists such as Mark Wahlberg, Matt Maher, Andrea Bocelli, Juanes, and so on!

Nevertheless, this isn't the only thing The Fray has been up lately. They've announced they're working on their fifth full-length album, saying that they've finished a week in the studio - "super early stages of lp5", which is definitely a good new! We can do nothing but wait, I hope we can listn to some new stuff soon :)

10,000 Reads!

Hello there!

Today this blog has reached 10,000 reads, and, for that reason I wanted to thank you guys for that. Because, honestly, checking out my blogs today and seeing that this one had reached 10K reads just made my day. And there’s no doubt that it’s because of you, those ones who read this blog, whether it’s since 2013 when I created it or who have just discovered it.

I know it might seem like it’s no big deal, but for me it is. So thank you so much for that.

To commemorate that I’m going to talk a bit about me and The Fray. Since I’ve been posting for almost two years now I’m not sure if I’ve talked about this, so, if I have, let me know.

I’m going to talk about how I discovered The Fray and how I got “obsessed” (as people say) or just how I became a fan of this awesome band.

I remember listening to their song “How to Save a Life” for years in the radio or in one recompilation CD my mom had on her car, but without knowing the band or the name of the song. It was the typical song you like but never try to search it or something.

I got more interested into the song after listening to it on my favorite TV show (Grey’s Anatomy), and I started paying attention to the song. I started to understand its meaning (English isn’t my mother language), and got into the song more and more. After that I finally searched the song on the internet (I didn’t know the title so I just searched it as I could).

The more I listened to the song the more I related to it and loved it. I searched for more songs by that band until my phone was full of their music. Every single one of their songs were perfect for some moments, they expressed what I couldn’t and it felt like they knew me. It was like feeling that someone understood me without having to share my feelings – it was more than amazing.

My love for them became bigger and bigger, I watched hundreds of interviews, read lots of them as well, trying to find out everything I could about them. And, since I had seen that there weren’t much pages or blogs about them, I decided to create one about them to share with the world everything I knew about them.

Thanks to them I didn’t only find a place where I felt safe and felt understood, but also I got into good and meaningful music. I started getting into more bands which, like them, really sang about something worth singing. And also they’ve taught more than I can even say. I’m not sure what would have been everything like for me, but I do know that I wouldn’t be the same person – in a good sense.

I wish I could thank them one day for everything they’ve done for me.
